The Arteries of the Aravallis |

Long before the modern highways cut through the rugged landscape of Alwar, the town of Tijara served as a vital junction for merchants moving between the Mughal capital of Delhi and the prosperous markets of Rajasthan. These paths were not merely routes for transport but were the lifelines that sustained the economic growth of the region for centuries.

The Stone Markers of Prosperity |

Scattered across the scrubland near the Tijara fort, one can still find weathered milestones and small stone platforms known as 'pau-ra'. These structures provided shade to weary travelers and their pack animals. They stand as rugged reminders of a time when the movement of spices, textiles, and precious metals defined the social hierarchy of the town.

The Decline of the Desert Caravan |

As the British colonial administration prioritized rail connectivity, the traditional cart tracks of Tijara began to lose their relevance. The heavy wheels of the bullock carts, which once carved deep grooves into the rocky terrain, stopped their rhythmic grinding. Today, these paths are reclaimed by the wild vegetation of the Aravallis, leaving only faint traces of the immense wealth that once flowed through these hills.
